What job did you hold right before you came to work at Event 360? I was a naturalist with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. I taught nature programs and led hikes at a state park.
Was there anything in particular that brought you to Event 360? I’ve been involved in the Komen 3-Day since 2002 as a participant. A well-timed job opening allowed me to join the Event 360 team.
If you weren’t working at Event 360 what would you be doing? I’d still be doing the naturalist gig, hopefully, as a full-time park interpreter with the DNR, but definitely in some capacity.
Favorite part of your job? Being on event! I love getting the chance to spend time in person with my fabulous colleagues and the satisfaction of seeing a year’s worth of effort culminate in something wonderful is the best feeling!
What do you like to do in your free time? I spend a lot of time reading. I also spend a ton of time outside (naturalist, remember?). Hiking, swimming, star-gazing… if I’m outside, I’m a happy girl!
Most memorable event experience? The Closing Ceremony of my first 3-Day®. I was a walker and the event was new to Michigan so none of us knew what to expect. We had to climb a small hill on the walk into closing and you couldn’t see anything that was on the other side. Once you got to the top and saw the spectators and the stage it took your breath away!
You’re showing off your hometown to a friend who has never been to visit before. What’s on your must see/do/eat list? The Root, a local restaurant run by an amazing young chef. The city of Detroit. Out-of-towners hear so many bad things, but downtown is vibrant and beautiful. There are world renowned museums, restaurants, and concert venues waiting for you! And, of course, a beach. We have thousands of lakes here in Michigan, I would be a terrible host not to show some of them off!
On event, what three things are we guaranteed to find in your bag? My Kindle (did I mention I read a lot?), granola bars because this girl does not do breakfast well, and some flavor packets for those endless bottles of water you drink on event.
One word to describe Event 360? Amazing!
