The Mission

Shatterproof works tirelessly to transform addiction treatment and eradicate addiction stigma. They wanted to strengthen their ties and increase their impact by engaging local organizations who are serving the same community that Shatterproof serves.

They saw the work that Event 360 did with AIDS Healthcare Foundation’s beneficiary teams program and wanted to pilot a similar initiative so they could connect with local nonprofits, recruit them to form teams for Shatterproof Walk and allow them to keep the donation dollars that these teams raised to fund their own work.

The Challenge

Shatterproof wanted to focus particularly on marginalized, vulnerable communities who do not have the resources to create their own P2P fundraising events.

We worked with them to create program goals and coached four beneficiary teams to recruit and fundraise for their local Shatterproof Walk.

Our P2P fundraising team developed a series of workshops that included interactive elements and takeaways. These workshops were supplemented with weekly reporting touchpoints and access to a personal expert fundraising coach.

The goal of putting together this combination of support was to help these beneficiary teams become more comfortable with fundraising (since many of them had never done this before) while highlighting the important work of their organizations. In doing so, they would grow the participant base for Shatterproof Walk, increase revenue and improve the relationships that Shatterproof was building in the community.

The Results

The pilot was successful and delivered results beyond expectations.

• Teams achieved 182% of the registration goal and 143% of fundraising goal  
• 64% fundraised for this no-minimum walk (versus a 38% fundraising rate for participants not in this program)
• 50% self-donated (versus 33% of participants not in this program)
• Beneficiary teams raised 5 times what other teams not in this program raised
• These teams had more than 6 times as many members as teams who did not receive the same coaching

Feedback from team captains indicated their satisfaction with their organization’s successful participation:

“The program went above and beyond expectations. I didn’t know what to expect but was blown away by all the support and assistance I was given.”

“It was such a positive experience, and we look forward to seeing how the event and its impact grow over time!”

Post-event survey results showed:

• 100% of team captains said being a beneficiary team was a positive experience for their organization.
• 100% rated the virtual workshops “Very Helpful”
  • “It was so helpful for our staff who do not have fundraising experience to get this education on peer-to-peer fundraising.”
  • “I thought the information was amazing. I think even if you thought you knew the info, it still helped push you to actually use it!”
  • “Everything was wonderful and a teachable moment for me.”

Beneficiary teams have the potential to boost event participation, drastically grow team size and activate communities you want to build stronger relationships with.

“You seriously helped us get to our goal and were so great and supportive along the way. We look forward to doing this again next year, and hopefully will be able to expand our goal!”

“This was our greatest fundraising effort since 2022, when we raised significantly less. Thank you again so much for your mentorship, it was extremely valuable to have this experience and you helped our team realize the importance of fundraising.”

Like all peer-to-peer fundraising support, this progam only works if there’s a willingness on the part of the beneficiary teams to put the tools, coaching and guidance into action. But when they do, the results can be transformative.
