“It’s the most wonderful time of the year…” Oh yes, its April, not December. But we are feeling as joyful as a kid on Christmas morning as we get ready to tear open the GIFT that will be the 2021 Florida AIDS Walk & Music Festival, live and in-person!
Listen, it comes as no surprise that planning an event on the beach in Fort Lauderdale for the late Spring has been a lesson in patience, flexibility and fortitude. Submitting a COVID-safety plan and a revised site plan are only the first steps in the process. It took months of adjustments and modifications to get final approval, and now we look towards April 24th leaving no stone unturned in terms of our plans to safely execute our first peer-to-peer fundraising event of 2021 on behalf of AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
We anticipate that nearly 1,000 people will gather on the beach to celebrate the over 1.5 million dollars raised to support local HIV/AIDS service organizations in South Florida and hear musical performances from Lil’ Kim and Trina. While the event will look different with masking, small group pods and staggered releases of participants to the route, the energy will certainly be palpable, and participants are already expressing how incredibly happy they are to be able to come together.
So yes, Christmas in April with the gift of community, cause and even a concert. Best gift ever, in our book.
