When the ongoing Covid pandemic forced us to turn the three hotel-based Susan G. Komen 3-Day® events into a primarily virtual experience, we took the opportunity to create a completely new kind of hybrid event: 3-Day Nation.  

3-Day Nation is a new way to connect the thousands of people who have supported Susan G. Komen® over the years, during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. 

Participants will walk in every state, in cities big and small, in neighborhoods across the country. 3-Day Nation is accessible to more people, with no age limit and a lower fundraising requirement of $1,000 ($250 for kids under 16), with new ways to participate through local “pop-up” walks or as a solo walker.   

The event will take place over three weekends (October 2-17), filled with live and virtual events and programming, celebrations, and ceremonies.  

Along the way, we’ve offered a whole series of exciting and inspiring activities, such as fundraising challenges, mileage challenges, coordinated training walks, shared stories, and other programming to connect participants back to Komen’s mission. We have also launched new features as part of the 3-Day app using Boundless Fundraising as well as Motion and Community, collected personal videos using Gather Voices technology, and will use the Charge Running app to power our final 10-mile Nationwide Walk. 

All participants who raise the minimum fundraising requirement will get a Pink Bubble Bundle mailed to their home filled with goodies like a 3-Day Nation victory shirt, promise ribbons, pins, water bottle, a medal, and a few other surprises. Power fundraisers can earn additional rewards and recognition items. This Bundle will help participants bring the 3-Day experience to life in their own home with all of the swag they’re used to receiving on a traditional 3-Day event and more. 

On October 2, we will kick off 3-Day Nation with an Opening Ceremony on YouTube Live. Then, participants will walk the first 25 miles of their 60-mile journey on their own or with their team during the first week. 

On October 9, we’ll be back with our Halfway Celebration with lots of fun and surprises. Then, participants will walk the next 25 miles of their journey in their own neighborhoods over the week that follows. 

On October 16-17, our final event weekend is chock full of opportunities for celebration and connection, including live and on-demand programming on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday evening, we’ll have a live Honor Ceremony honoring breast cancer survivors and those we’ve lost to the disease. The participants will recreate the 3-Day camp experience in their own backyards that night for our National Campout. 

Sunday morning, the entire 3-Day Nation community will connect for a shared, simultaneous 10-mile walk, culminating in a memorable Closing Ceremony. We’ve given participants the tools and resources they need to organize volunteer-led and self-run “Pop-Up Walks” across the country. And whether walkers are at a Pop-Up near them or walking in their own neighborhood, they will all be on the Charge Running app, walking together, connecting in the chat, swapping photos and being cheered on by the 3-Day team. 

We’ve had so much fun innovating with our partners at Susan G. Komen to create 3-Day Nation and can’t wait to provide this amazing new experience for participants.
